GST Maker is on Product Hunt — India's First Free AI-Powered GST Billing Tool
We've got some news worth sharing.
GST Maker is live on Product Hunt today.
If you've already been using it to create invoices, manage clients, track expenses, or file GSTR-1 — this is genuinely your moment. An upvote from you helps a lot more small business owners across India actually find this thing.
And if this is your first time hearing about GST Maker — welcome. Here's what we built, why we built it, and why we think it's the most useful free billing tool for small businesses in India right now.
What Product Hunt actually is, quickly
For anyone who hasn't come across it, Product Hunt is one of the bigger platforms out there for discovering new tech products — apps, tools, software, launched daily, with the community upvoting whatever they find genuinely useful.
Getting real traction there means real people — founders, developers, marketers, freelancers, small business owners — actually seeing your product and passing it along to their own networks. For us, that means reaching exactly the crowd we built this for: people who need a simple, free, AI-powered way to do GST billing.
👉 Support GST Maker on Product Hunt — takes a few seconds, and every upvote genuinely helps more small businesses find us.
The problem that actually got us started
When we started building this, we kept running into the same story, over and over.
A freelance developer losing 20 minutes to a single Excel invoice. A shop owner sending a WhatsApp photo of a handwritten bill to a corporate client and hoping it's enough. A consultant Googling SAC codes at midnight, right before a payment deadline. A small business owner paying ₹18,000 a year for Tally, just to make invoices.
GST isn't optional — every registered business deals with it, every single month. But everything on the market felt either too expensive, too complicated, or clearly built somewhere else and adapted for India as an afterthought.
So the question became — what if GST billing was actually simple? What if a plumber, a tailor, a freelancer, a shop owner could make a proper GST invoice in under 60 seconds, from their phone, for free?
That's what we spent the last while building.
What's actually in GST Maker
This isn't just an invoice generator — it's grown into a full free billing and compliance toolkit for small businesses in India.
Tax invoices, fully GST-compliant, with your GSTIN, the right HSN or SAC code, automatic CGST/SGST or IGST math, sequential numbering, and a clean branded PDF — under 60 seconds, start to finish.
AI Magic Fill, our most-loved feature by a wide margin — it reads your customer's state, applies the right GST type, suggests HSN/SAC codes, and calculates tax on its own. No decisions, no errors, just fast invoicing.
Proforma invoices for collecting advances before the work's done — great for contractors, agencies, anyone billing in milestones — one click to convert into a tax invoice when it's actually delivered.
Quotations to share a detailed price before anything's confirmed, which move into a proforma or tax invoice as the deal progresses, with nothing retyped along the way.
Recurring invoices for retainer clients — set it up once, and it auto-generates and sends on your schedule.
An expense tracker for materials, software, travel, equipment — genuinely useful come ITC time or when your CA needs clean books.
Inventory tracking that updates as you invoice, so you catch low stock before your customer does.
Client management that saves everyone's GSTIN, address, and contact info once, selected from a dropdown from then on.
GST reporting that gives you a GSTR-1 ready report at the click of a button, no manual data entry for you or your accountant.
And the public share link — every invoice gets one, copy it into WhatsApp, email, or SMS, and your customer opens a clean invoice on their phone with nothing to download or log into.
Who we actually built this for
There are roughly 63 million small and medium businesses in India — too small for enterprise software, but too serious to keep running billing off WhatsApp and Excel forever. That's who this is for.
Freelancers — designers, developers, writers, marketers, consultants, tutors — anyone working independently who needs clean GST invoices going out to clients.
Shop owners — kirana stores, garment shops, hardware stores, electronics dealers, wholesalers — anyone selling goods who needs item-wise bills with the right HSN codes.
Contractors — civil, electrical, plumbing, interior design, IT infrastructure — anyone doing project-based work with milestone billing.
Agencies — digital marketing, web dev, creative, consulting — anyone invoicing multiple clients month after month.
And new businesses that just got a GSTIN and have no idea where to start — you're ready to bill within 5 minutes here.
What actually sets this apart
There are other billing tools in India, we know. Here's the honest case for why this one's different.
It's actually free — not a 14-day trial, not "5 invoices a month, then pay up." The free plan covers everything — invoices, clients, products, reports, all of it.
It's AI-powered in a way nothing else free in this space really is. The automatic GST-type detection and code suggestion genuinely saves time, not just typing.
It was built for India, not adapted for it. Most billing software started somewhere else and bolted on GST support later. This was designed around CGST, SGST, IGST, HSN, SAC, and GSTR-1 from day one.
It works properly on mobile — no install, no Windows dependency, open it in a browser on a construction site or at a client's office and it just works.
And honestly, it was built by people who actually saw this problem up close — not a large software company optimizing for enterprise accounts, but founders who kept watching real people struggle with this and decided to just fix it.
Where things stand so far
Since launch, we've seen freelancers create their first proper GST invoice in under 2 minutes, shop owners move off handwritten bills entirely, contractors win corporate clients purely because they could finally hand over a compliant invoice on time, and businesses generally getting hours of their month back from billing admin.
Every invoice made on GST Maker is one less headache for someone running a small business. That's really the whole point of this.
What we're building next
We're not close to done. On the roadmap right now — smoother GSTR-1 export straight into the GST portal, payment links on invoices so customers can pay via UPI or card directly, multi-user access so your team or accountant can get into your account with proper permissions, direct WhatsApp delivery without the copy-paste step, and a dedicated mobile app for even faster on-the-go billing.
All of this is coming from what our users actually tell us they need. If you've got a feature request, genuinely, we want to hear it.
If you want to support the launch
If GST Maker's helped you, or you think it'd help someone you know, here's what actually moves the needle: upvote us on Product Hunt (takes about 5 seconds), leave a review sharing what you use it for, or just send the link to a freelancer, shop owner, or contractor you know who's still fighting with GST billing the hard way. And if you've got questions, drop them on the Product Hunt page — we're there answering everything, features, roadmap, pricing, all of it.
A note from us
Building this has genuinely been one of the more rewarding things we've worked on. We started with one question — why is GST billing this painful for small businesses in India — and we've spent every day since trying to answer it better.
Every feature we ship comes back to one goal: make GST billing simple enough that any small business owner in India can do it themselves, from anywhere, for free.
Product Hunt is a nice milestone. But the real one is every business owner sending their first clean invoice, filing their first return without a scramble, or winning a client because their billing finally looks like it belongs to a real business.
Thanks for being part of this.
